March Mathness is around the corner! During the month of March all grade levels and classrooms will celebrate mathematics, and we invite you to do the same at home.
Last Friday, each student received a Math Calendar with daily suggestions for engaging math activities, which our Bacich mathematicians and their families can enjoy together at home. On the back of the calendar are the math practices, and we hope the many activities provide an opportunity to foster perseverance, critical thinking, reasoning, and other strong habits of our mathematical thinkers.
At school, we will celebrate Pi Day on March 14th (3/14). First celebrated over twenty years ago, Pi Day has been internationally recognized as a day to highlight mathematics. Did you know that Pi is one of the oldest and most recognizable mathematical constants in the world? Did you know that Pi is the ratio of any circle’s circumference to its diameter with a value approximately equal to 3.14159265?
For the Math Calendars, as well as additional information about Pi Day and supporting math students at home, please visit the March Mathness tab of the Bacich Math Matters website. I also invite you to check out the following visual and initiate a rich dinner table conversation during March Mathness!
Mathematics is everywhere! I hope you find time to enjoy it this month as a family.
