Due to a medical disability related to her vocal cords, our music teacher, Ms. Poon, will be taking a leave of absence through the end of the school year. Classroom music classes, Wednesday chorus class, and our school concerts will be put on hold until the Fall of 2019.
Finding a long-term substitute to teach music has been unsuccessful. We are, therefore, taking this opportunity to put in place a STEM Lab class for our TK through Fourth Grade students.
We know that children are natural-born engineers. They are fascinated with building things and with taking things apart to see how they work. This class will create a space for our students to apply what they know about science and math in the exploration of engineering activities.
Bacich long-term substitute teacher, Amy Forrest, will work closely with Bacich Math/Science coach Fran Yang and our Innovation and Integration specialist, Michael Bessonette to draw upon the Engineering in Education program (EIE) to work with our students as they investigate like scientists and tackle problems like engineers.
I look forward to sharing more with you about this innovative class as we dig in and explore some hands-on engineering design challenges.
